MARPORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

MARPORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

ZONE 1 - Main Terminal Pier 1 – 355 mt.
55m part of this pier on the land’s side still cannot be utilised for vessel operation. It is planned to remove RO-RO ramp, to strenghthen the 55m part, to install SSG rails and to increase the pier length from 355m to 368m in the end.

ZONE 2 - Main Terminal Pier 3 – 297 mt.
Water depth at the 38m point of this pier on the land side is -7/-8m. Furthermore, this are is not suitable for SSG crane operation. It is proposed to strenghthen this area, to install piles in the sea in order to prevent landfall and to improve the water depth up to -14,50m. When completed it will enable operational servicing of vessels up to 275m in length.

ZONE 3 - West Terminal Pier 1 - 400 mt.
The very first 150m part of this pier on the land’s side is not suitable for SSG crane operation. It is proposed to install new piles and rail beams over this length in order to make SSG crane operations possible.

ZONE 4 - West Terminal Pier 2 - 365mt.
This pier was extended 60m in 2011, to make the berthing of large vessels possible. Subsequently 4th SSG crane was installed. Manouvering of Terminal Tractors in this area is time consuming due to lack of direct access in the direction of the traffic flow under the SSG. It is proposed to build an access road to this area at the water end of the pier.

ZONE 5 - Limak Pier (Revised)
Limak pier located between the Main and West Terminals is planned to be used for Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC). To enable MHC operation the pier requires reinforcement of existing piles’ cap including limited refurbishment of the deck. Furthermore it is planned to reclaim an area of 2500m2 at the land end of the pier.

ZONE 6 - Main Terminal – Warehouse Extension (Revised)
Current 4382 m2 enclosed warehouse area at the Main Terminal does not satisfy the volume increment, some of which derives from the latest Customs Regulation. Forthcoming 2M activity will increase the volume further. Building an additional 4715 m2 enclosed warehouse to the area adjacent to existing warehouse is proposed. Customs Administration are still using the mobile container offices. They have instructed us to build a proper building for Custom officers, and we accepted it.

ZONE 7 - Reefer Container Capacity
There are 504 piece of reefer plugs currently. To accommodate the requirements of the increasing reefer traffic, there is a requirement for an additional reefer plug capacity. It is proposed to install an additional 280 reefer plugs at the West Terminal.

ZONE 8 - West Terminal – Existing Buildings and IN-OUT Gate
Existing dinning building at the West Terminal has to be destroyed in order to enable unrestricted passing between West and Main Terminals. Furthermore the old prefabricated office building does not provide the required work space.
It is proposed to build approximately 2000m2 building in order to provide our personnel the necessary dining hall, training and dressing rooms and offices. (Note: It should be noted that the building was budgeted in the Marport Expansion Project will now be replaced with this enhanced building.)
In addition, it will be necessary to relocate and make alterations to some aspects of the existing IN-OUT gate complex at the West Terminal as it presently occupy areas of the proposed traffic route.

DREDGING
The vessel manouvering areas of the Main Terminal piers no. 1 and 3 and the West Terminal Pier 1 are proposed to be dredged to -14.5m.
Limak piers will be dredged to -10m where necessary. (It should be noted that dredging was planned in the Marport Expansion Project will now be shifted to Marport Development Plan).

OPERATIONAL EQUIPMENT
There are 4 pieces of SSG cranes at the West Terminal Pier 2 currently. Three of these have 19 accross twin lift, 55 tons under spreader capacity and the other has 20 accross twin lift 55 tons under spreader capacity.
To be able to provide service to 400m vessels calling at Marport, it is proposed to purchase three 24 across twin lift 65 tons under spreader capacity SSG cranes. Existing three 19 across cranes will be utilised in another pier of Marport. In order to provide service for 2.5m TEUs, considering the trade mix, operational and statutory requirements, we propose to acquire four additional Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes.
